Choose and create a static or dynamic QR code

Use a static code for information that stays fixed. Use a saved dynamic website code when you want to update the destination later and see recorded opens in your NILO workspace.

Make a static code without a workspace

  1. Open the free QR code generator and choose Website, Text, Email, Phone, or Wi-Fi.
  2. Enter the content you want the code to contain. Static QR content is generated in your browser rather than saved as a NILO campaign.
  3. Choose the available colours, background, export size, and error correction.
  4. Download PNG or SVG, then test the exported code on a phone before using it.

Save a dynamic website code

A dynamic code opens its saved short address, which redirects to the current destination. Edit the saved destination to update an existing code without replacing its image. Paused, expired, or archived codes stop redirecting.

  1. Sign in and open QR codes in the workspace where you want to manage the campaign.
  2. Choose “Create QR code”, add a Code name and public Destination URL, and choose its fixed short address and domain.
  3. Optionally add tags, a description, or an expiry, then choose “Save QR code”.
  4. Open Download to choose a design and export PNG or SVG. You can save that design with the code for later downloads.

Make the exported code easier to scan

Keep the clear margin around the code and use a dark code on a light background. NILO’s colour controls check contrast, but scan reliability still depends on the final size, material, lighting, and camera.

Test the exact exported file at the size and distance people will use. Avoid covering the pattern, stretching it, or placing busy artwork inside its clear margin. SVG is useful when you need a scalable image; PNG is a raster image at the chosen size.

Understand what QR activity measures

Choose Insights on a saved dynamic code to see the report for that code. QR opens include repeated requests to the QR-tagged address; they are not proof of camera scans or unique people.

Static codes and offline contact codes do not send a scan event to NILO. A contact file download is also different from a confirmed address-book save.

Questions about this guide

Which QR code should I put on a menu or poster?

A dynamic website code lets you change the destination later while keeping the printed image. A static website code keeps the original URL permanently. Test the final printed result before distributing it.

Do I need to publish a profile for dynamic QR codes?

No. Saved dynamic website codes work independently of profile publication. Their destination must still be a public URL, and the code must be active and unexpired.
